Communication with the Smart Grid

Develco Products provides intelligence for white goods such as refrigeraters, freezers, and washers.

Working with some of the premium European manufactorers, Develco Products provides technology for optimizing the use of renewable energy.

The appliances cooperate with other devices inside the home environment and are also connected to the smart grid via an internet gateway. Through this, the smart appliance collects information about CO2 free energy, and about the energy hourly cost fixed by the utility.

When the user for example selects the washing cycle and temperature on the washer user interface, the display suggests the best time to start the cycle in order to minimize the CO2 impact and cost.

Electric vehicles

Electric cars ideally use a smart grid for charging.

Batteries of electric vehicles can provide a buffer to lighten the load on the grid during peak times and potentially provide back-up power to homeowners.

Utilities see electric vehicles as part of the new smart grid using information technology to make the electric grid efficient, reliable, distributed, and interoperable.
