SmartAMM

SmartAMM is a modular concept making it possible to monitor and control your home’s electrical appliances and energy consumption via a smart meter.

A detailed meter reading and data logging gives valuable information on consumption, which provides customers with a sound basis for making consumption decisions. All of a sudden, consumption and waste become highly visible. How big is consumption at different times of the day and during the week? What is the level of consumption at night, when everybody is at sleep? Or when everybody is at school or work? Or when the family is away on holiday? Are the lights on, does the tap run? All waste is there for everybody to see.

SmartAMM system includes:

Energy Management

Surveys show that waste alone accounts for some 20% of total consumption. Experience also shows that once consumers see their actual real-time energy consumption, this is enough to make them change their behaviour and make decisions that cut consumption. In future there will be a good deal to save if you wait and start your washing machine or drier before heading to bed. Plus customers will enjoy the security and comfort of being able to operate lightening, heating and electrical appliances by remote control.

Utilities can automate consumption control and thus make internal rationalizations and optimize their procurement as well as services towards customers.

ZigBee technology possesses the ultimate security properties and thus enables installation of wireless sensors for monitoring of a broad range of conditions with automatic alerts to users in case of unusual incidents which might otherwise go unnoticed.

ZigBee wireless communication

SmartAMM is based on the use of ZigBee, a wireless technology, developed specifically with energy management and Smart House solutions in mind.

There is a wide range of ZigBeebased products available, which makes SmartAMM a complete and financially attractive system. With all the possibilities offered by SmartAMM and its smart meter and advanced metering infrastructure, the energy sector is facing a new reality. Due to its modular structure, SmartAMM allows both energy utilities and consumers a lot of flexibility, which can also help increase customer loyalty.

In the home, a ZigBee gateway is established to communicate with a central location (i.e. the utility). Through this, it is possible to access remote control of household appliances, thermostats, water heaters, alarm systems, sensors etc – irrespective of model and brand. Develco Products’ ZigBee gateway can be built into a consumption meter or it can be a stand-alone device. Via communication modules in the other meters, the gateway can read them, irrespective of the type of supplies (electricity, water, gas or heating) and meter model, or brand.

SmartAMM covers all the basic components that help customers and utilities read, control and reduce energy consumption. SmartAMM is prepared for the future through its use of an open wireless standard. It is therefore possible to extend and innovate the system as the need arises - without having to change the meter units.
