European Utility Week: How demand response can reduce energy consumption in residential buildings

As technologies evolve, so does the possibility of distributing energy resources and renewables. For more homeowners to have access and use more renewable energy, existing and new technologies alike should respond to supply and demand. One of these technologies is demand response.

Demand response is a targeted, short-term change in the energy consumption of a specific customer’s electricity usage during peak times of demand. Demand response is most common in the industrial sector, as energy use is higher, and peaks of energy use comes with more significant utility costs and energy grids. In the future, demand response programs will play a crucial role in balancing energy demand within the residential energy. This will better allow residential energy users to match energy supply with their demand, reducing energy consumption and costs.

RESPOND: introducing demand response into residential buildings

RESPOND is a Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Union that aims to introduce demand response capabilities to all buildings, especially residential buildings and households. The project aims to deploy and test an interoperable, cost-effective, user-centered solution that provide tools to enable energy automation, control, and monitoring that help integrate demand response programs into energy management systems.

RESPOND uses Develco Products’ devices to monitor the energy consumption of household appliances. Furthermore, devices capable of controlling energy consumption are also provided. By using Develco Products’ multiprotocol Squid.link Gateway to document device data, RESPOND is able to perform reliable energy data analytics and forecasting, allowing them to detect opportunities for energy conservation and involving end-users to raise their awareness about demand response.

You will be able to test Develco Products devices at European Utility Week 2019, where you can find us at the OSGP Alliance Pavilion on stand H130. There, you will have the opportunity to learn, through first-hand experience, about the benefits our white label platform and products can bring to your IoT and energy solutions.

Europe’s top smart energy conference

European Utility Week is Europe’s prime conference and trade show dedicated to the smart utility sector. Across three days, you will have the opportunity to discuss topics such as the future of smart energy, the European strategy to smoothly transition towards a low carbon energy, and the importance of security, equity, and sustainability across an end-to-end European energy experience.

At European Utility Week, you will be able to meet experts from utilities, network operators, vendors, consultants, startups and system integrators covering the entire smart energy value chain. This year, the fair takes place at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France, on November 12-14.

A program rich in opportunities

European Utility Week offers a varied program where you will be able to network with over 18,000 international power and smart energy professionals, as well as over 800 exhibiting companies from 100 different countries.

The Hub sessions program is free to attend and is right on the exhibit floor. It will feature talks discussing project experiences to highlight technologies and solutions, with each talk being followed by a Q&A format. The Hub sessions are divided into five tracks:Energy revolution, digitalization, energy markets, lifecycle management, and distributed generation.
