New possibilities for remote meter reading
The process of enabling remote meter reading is now greatly simplified. Through our middleware application Squid Smart App, which is included in the Squid.link Gateway, it is possible to use only configurations when establishing the connection with a wireless device instead of programming them. As the Squid Smart App now supports Wireless M-Bus, the European standard for wireless meter communication, the configuration possibilities can now also be used to establish communication with different kind of meters, including gas, electricity, water, and heat.
Wireless M-Bus and Remote Meter Reading
The benefits of remote meter reading are undeniable. Data from electricity meters can help utilities save the expense of manually collecting data from each meter, and they are provided with almost real-time data. With this data, it is possible for utility users and companies to base estimates on these rather than data about past consumption or predictions about the future. In the case of water meters, the data can be used to provide the users with information and counseling about their water consumption. In case there is a leak, it is also possible to detect it and initiate a solution.
These benefits are further expanded by using Wireless M-Bus, as it is a highly secure one-way protocol, meaning only people with encryption keys can access the data. Additionally, it has a long communication range, which improves the functionality of meters.
Squid Smart App
With the Squid Smart App, you will not have to worry about programming. The Squid Smart App provides a REST API, and the devices connected to the Squid.link Gateway are modelled as resources in the API. To identify available resources, the Squid Smart App relies on templates. Since the templates consist of easily readable text, you can upload, modify, and download new versions without programming. This way, the Squid Smart App provides you with a shortcut to rolling out your solution.
The templates in the Squid Smart App define how each device needs to be configured. When a device is integrated into your solution through the API, the application will match the device with a template. When a match is found, the API will generate the data points defined in the template and apply the configuration settings to the device.
Wireless M-Bus Module
To simplify the process of enabling remote meter reading through wireless communication and the Squid Smart App’s support of Wireless M-Bus, Develco Products offers the Wireless M-Bus Module for NES meters. The module, which is part of the OSGP Smart Grid Solution, serves as a gateway between the wireless network and the NES electricity meter power line communication. The NES Interface can collect meter readings from up to 16 different meter units in one system.
